Mount Everest (Chinese: 珠穆朗玛峰, Tibetan: ཇོ་མོ་གླང་མ་, Nepali: सगरमथर), referred to as Mount Everest, is the main peak of the Himalayas and the highest mountain in the world. It is located between China and On the Nepal border, the northern part is in Tingri County, Tibet, China (the western slope is in Tashi Zong Township, Tingri County, and the eastern slope is in Qudang Township, Tingri County, where there is the Everest Base Camp), and the southern part is in Nepal, which is the highest peak in the world. , is also the center of China's Mount Everest Nature Reserve and Nepal National Park, which spans four counties.

In Tibetan, "Zhumu" means "goddess", "Langma" means "mother elephant", and the overall meaning is "Mother of the Earth". On May 29, 1953, Nepalese guides Tenzing Norgay and Hillary climbed Mount Everest for the first time.

For the height of Mount Everest, the snow cover height (total height) used by Nepal and other countries is 8,848 meters, which is consistent with the measurement value of Mount Everest by Chinese surveying and mapping workers in 1975; China uses the rock surface height measured by the China National Bureau of Surveying and Mapping in 2005. (The bare height is the geological height) is 8844.43 meters. The precise measurement and publication of the 8844.43-meter elevation of the rock face of Mount Everest in 2005 is strictly scientific and legal. It has been used as the standard data uniformly adopted by China to this day; the new Mount Everest will be announced after the State Council or the department authorized by the State Council. Before providing elevation data, any unit or individual should use the legally published elevation data of the rock face of Mount Everest, 8844.43 meters. On December 8, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nepalese President Bhandari exchanged letters, jointly announcing the latest elevation of Mount Everest at 8848.86 meters.

It is located in the middle section of the Himalayas at the junction of China's Tibet Autonomous Region and Nepal, with a north latitude of 27°59′15.85″ and an east longitude of 86°55′39.51″. The northern part is in Tingri County of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China (the western slope is in Tashi, Tingri County The eastern slope of the clan is in Qudang Township, Dingri County, where there is Mount Everest Base Camp), and the southern slope is in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

The Tibetan word "job-moglang-marib" (Qomolangma) means "Mother of the Earth". In Tibetan, Jo-mo "Zhumu" means goddess, and glang-ma "Langma" should be understood as female elephant (in Tibetan, gland-ma has two meanings: alpine willow and female elephant). Mythology says that Mount Everest is the palace where the long-lived five-goddess (the-ringchildga) lives. However, there is another English saying that appears many times in middle school textbooks, namely Mount Qomolangma or Qomolangma Mount. This peak is generally called Mount Everest or Mount Everest in the West to commemorate George Everest, director of the Survey of India who was responsible for measuring the Himalayas when the British occupied Nepal. The Nepali name is Sagarmatha, which means "goddess of the sky". This name was given by the Nepalese government in the 1960s. Previously, the Nepali people had not given this mountain a name, and the government did not choose to use a transliterated name due to political reasons.

The "Lotus Relic" unearthed in 1258 is called "Lachi", and the Kagyu monk Sangji Gyaltsen's "Milarepa Song Collection" calls the location of Mount Everest "most snowy". In 1717, surveyors of the Qing Dynasty surveyed and mapped the "Imperial Map" in the Mount Everest area and named it after "Zumlangma Alin". "Alin" is Manchu, meaning "mountain".

On May 8, 1952, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Central People's Government and the General Administration of Publication jointly officially announced that "Mount Ephesus" was renamed "Mount Everest".

In 2002, the People's Daily published an article arguing that the English name "Mount Everest" used in the Western world should be renamed its Tibetan name "Mount Everest." The newspaper is extremely subjective and believes that the mark on China's map 280 years ago was named "Everest" before the West used the English name "Mount Ephesus".

Taiwan has traditionally called this mountain "Mountain of Everest".
