Norbulingka is the summer residence of the Dalai Lama. Norbulingka, a Tibetan transliteration, means "treasure garden". It is an ancient garden building complex integrating natural landscape and cultural landscape. Norbulingka was funded by the then Minister to Tibet on behalf of the Qing government in 1751. It was specially built for the seventh Dalai Lama Kelsang Gyatso to bathe and treat illnesses in his later years. Later, it was expanded to varying degrees by successive Dalai Lamas, forming a complex with a size of 400. There are more than one set of rooms and a large artificial garden covering an area of 360,000 square meters.
