The General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna, known as "Wabajie" in Dai language, is a pilgrimage center for Buddhist believers in Xishuangbanna. The Buddhist temple is located on the south side of the back garden of Manting Office in Jinghong City District, and is in the same courtyard as the Buddhist College.
The Xishuangbanna Buddhist Temple and Buddhist College cover an area of more than 3,000 square meters and are surrounded by walls to form a rectangular courtyard. The courtyard gate opens to the north of the courtyard and is connected to Manting Park. The current construction area of the courtyard is about 1100 square meters. The main buildings include the main hall called "Weihan" in Dai language, the teaching building of the Buddhist College, the monk's residence "Xu Nuan" and the unfinished "Bosu" (lotus top). Buddha pavilion). To the left of the current courtyard gate is a row of bungalows with a large long drum called "Guangbing" in Dai language. There is an altar built in front of the north wall, which houses several Buddha statues. The wall is painted with half a picture of the "Buddha Jataka". On the altar on the east wall, there is a 7-armed Buddha with 7 dragon-head-like arms extending from the back and bending above the head. There are incense and candles placed on the incense holder in front of the Buddha statue, and people often worship.
The General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna was a holy place where Zhao Pianling (literally translated as Lord of the Land or King of the Land), the supreme ruler of the Xishuangbanna area, and his chieftain worshiped Buddha before liberation. It is also the highest-ranking Buddhist temple among the Buddhist temples in Xishuangbanna. The abbots of Buddhist temples from all over the world come here from time to time to pay homage and discuss scriptures. It was a holy place for worshiping Buddha in the past.
