The freshwater lake with the most transparent water in China. It means "undefeated, victorious" in Tibetan and is known as the "Holy Lake". It is located between Mount Kailash, the main peak of the Gangdise Mountains, and Namunani Peak of the Himalayas, in Purang County, Tibet Autonomous Region. Manasarovar is also called Mafamu Co and was once called Ma Chui Co. It was once connected with Laang Cuo (Ghost Lake), but later it evolved into an endorheic lake due to blockage by flood sediments and ice water accumulation. The lake is in the shape of a "ya pear", wide in the north and narrow in the south, with a long axis of 26 kilometers and a short axis of 21 kilometers. The lake is 4588 meters above sea level. The average water depth is 46 meters, the maximum water depth is 81.8 meters, and the area is 412 square kilometers. The lake water is crystal clear with a transparency of 14 meters. The salinity of the lake water is 400 mg/L. It is a freshwater lake and contains trace elements such as boron, lithium, and fluorine. Mainly supplied by melt water and rainwater, but also partially supplied by spring water. The lake shoreline is straight, with a circumference of 83 kilometers, and a shoreline development coefficient of 1.15. Terraces develop on the east and southeast coasts. There are many hot springs around the lake. On the alluvial plains and foothill alluvial fans, there is a desert grassland dominated by sand-growing Stipa, mixed with Stipa pinnata and Stipa purpurea; on the lakeside terraces, Stipa sinensis, Polygonum tenuifolia, and Polygonum tenuifolia develop. A swampy meadow of marsh vegetation composed of Tibetan Artemisia and Tibetan Carex. The lake area is mainly used for grazing, and the lake produces Mafa wood fish and naked carp.

Manasarovar Buddhism calls it "Holy Lake". Every summer and autumn, Buddhists, old and young, come here for "pilgrimage" and "bathe and purify themselves" in the "holy water" to "prolong life."

Manasarovar is known as the "Mother of Rivers in the World" and is a place that the eminent monk Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty called the "Western Jade Pool" in "The Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty".

Lake Manasarovar is the most transparent lake in China currently measured. There are 8 temples surrounding Manasarovar Lake, just distributed on all sides of the lake. There is the Sewalong Monastery of the Drikung Sect in the east, the Nie Guo Monastery of the Sakya Sect in the southeast, the Chugu Monastery of the Gelug Sect in the south, the Guozu Monastery of the Kagyu Sect of Bhutan in the southwest, and the Five Hundred Arhats in the northwest. The Kaji Monastery built on the basis of a cave has Qiwu Monastery to the west, Langna Monastery of the Kagyu Sect of Bhutan to the north, and Benri Monastery of the Gelug Sect to the northeast.

There is a ghost lake next to Manasarovar Lake, which is called "Laangcuo" in Tibetan, which means "poisonous black lake". Manasarovar Lake is a freshwater lake, while Laang Tso is a saltwater lake.
