Serin is a big devil who used to live in Duilungdeqing, west of Lhasa. He greedily devours thousands of creatures every day, including people and all animals. No one can do anything about his power. On a good day after a thunderstorm, Master Padmasambhava, who had been slaying demons all the way, finally found Serin. So under the hot pursuit of Master Padmasambhava, Selin fled to a vast and turbid lake south of Gangni Changtang. The master ordered Selin never to leave the lake, to repent devoutly in the lake, not to harm the aquatic people, and to leave this lake. The name of the big lake is "Selinduicuo", which means "Selin Devil Lake".
The lake surface of Serincuo is 4530 meters above sea level. The lake is 72 kilometers long from east to west and 22.8 kilometers wide on average. The eastern part is the widest 40 kilometers and the lake area is 2391 square kilometers (see Namtso's explanation that the area of Selintso exceeded Namtso in 2014). , the largest inland lake system in Tibet.
