Yamdrok Lake (hereinafter referred to as "Yam Lake") means "Jasper Lake" and "Swan Pond" in Tibetan. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It is located on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River and in Langkazi County, Shannan. The lake is 4441 meters above sea level, 130 kilometers long from east to west, 70 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total length of 250 kilometers of shoreline and a total area of 638 square kilometers, which is about 70 times the size of West Lake in Hangzhou. The average depth of the lake is 20-40 meters, with the deepest point being 60 meters. It is the largest inland lake at the northern foot of the Himalayas. There are many branches in Yanghu Lake, which are like coral branches, so it is also called "the coral lake above" in Tibetan.

Yanghu is a plateau barrier lake. It was formed about 100 million years ago when glacial debris flow blocked the river channel. Its shape is very irregular, with many forks. The lakeshore is winding and winding, and is accompanied by Kongmucuo, Shencuo and Jiancuo. 3 Small lake. Historically, it was an outflow lake. The above-mentioned lakes were connected into one, and the lake water flowed into the Brahmaputra River from Moqu. However, due to the lake water retreat, it later became an inflow lake and was divided into several small lakes. The difference in lake surface height is only 6.5 meters.

The lake is surrounded by mountains. There are 21 small islands distributed in the lake, each with its own independent water surface. The large ones can accommodate five or six families, while the small ones are only more than a hundred square meters. The maximum area is about 18 square kilometers. The islands have rich pasture. There are flocks of wild birds.

There are three major snow peaks in the west of the lake, including Ningjin Kangsha Peak. This peak is 7,206 meters high and is the most important sacred mountain in the Houzang region and one of the four traditional sacred mountains in Tibet.
